Global Burden of Disease IHME Report

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) uses data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) to highlight trends in child health. Researchers found that global life expectancy increased by 6.2 years between 1990 and 2021, due mainly to reductions in deaths from enteric infections like diarrhea. Eastern Africa experienced the largest increase in life expectancy, resulting primarily from control of diarrheal diseases. The report also demonstrates that there can be significant inequities in prevention and control of diseases between countries.
