Oh, the places we go

A cartoon poop emoji with glasses is standing in front of a subway entrance. A speech bubble above the poop emoji reads, "I'm the reason why your mother tells you never to touch anything on the subway." The background shows an urban street scene. We believe the best social media campaigns are resourceful and creative with content, using it to stimulate discussion beyond the interwebs. After two successful Poo Haiku campaigns, we asked ourselves how DefeatDD could make this leap from digital to interpersonal interactions. Enter our 2014 and 2015 crowdsourced calendars, “Oh, the places we go: Public health’s humble hero.”

Spiral-bound calendars resembling toilet seats are arranged on a desk. The covers feature various titles, including "Oh the places we go," "Oh the places poo goes," and "Poo Haiku 2017 calendar." The calendars are associated with DEFEATDD.org and PATH.

Good thing we convinced our graphic designer that a calendar of commodes isn’t a crappy idea.

We asked our army of advocates to send us their best potty pics from all over the globe, and they delivered. We chose our favorite commodes out of about 100 submissions per year; check out the illustrious loos of 2014 and 2015. Like the photos within, our calendars have made their way to all sorts of places: into 1,000 conference bags at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Reinvent the Toilet Fair in New Delhi, India; to policymakers at USAID and on Capitol Hill; and even in the hands of actress and sanitation champion, Patricia Arquette!

In a poo-vocative twist for 2016, we provided the photos and challenged DefeatDD champions to caption the global adventures of Traveling Poo on his journey of self-discovery. You can see the winning captions in our Facebook album and in our interactive map of Traveling Poo’s journey.

In 2017, we combined everyone’s favorite DefeatDD product with everyone’s favorite campaign: Poo Haiku! Learn more.
